The gold-mounted upper partial worn by the former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was sold at auction and raked in an astonishing £18,000 (USD 22,680). Because of speech problems caused by tooth loss, Winston Churchill wore the upper partial to ensure that his speeches sounded top-notch. The Cotswold Auction Company stated that Winston Churchill’s upper partial was sold at double the guide price of £8,000 and allowed the buyer to own a piece of history.
While growing up Churchill suffered from dental problems with led to tooth loss in early adulthood. It was because of that tooth loss that he needed to have an upper partial made for him and some say that he always carried more than one on him to ensure that if one broke, he had a spare.
So let me speak from the “I” perspective for a second. For me, I just don’t understand why anyone would want to own Winston Churchill’s upper partial regardless of who he was. I understand that everyone is different and thank God for that but at least for me I would prefer not to own a piece of history that once resided in someone’s mouth.
